- FORMATIONS OF THE GLOBAL: Narratives - Narrative Strategies - Knowledge Transfers (October 21-22, 2011)
Conference offering two keynote speeches for all participants and two disciplinary workshops for researchers from the fields of history and literary and cultural studies. The history workshop dealt with formations of individual and group identities and their relations to "others". The focus was on narratives and narrative strategies that are and were fundamental for the development of images of the self and the other and for the creation of community relations. The literary and cultural studies workshop dealt with narrative strategies that transgress borders and epochs, focusing representations of the global by means of intertextuality, narration, language and transculturality. Transdisciplinary conference for Ph.D. students and post-docs from the fields of humanities, social sciences and Media and communication studies which focused on the role of (b)orders in a globalizing world.
The international symposium "Theories of International and Intercultural Communication" with an integrated workshop for doctoral students took place from October 29-31, 2009 at the University of Mannheim. The conference of the Network Intercultural und International Communication was supported by the graduate program 'Formations of the Global'.
