Vom Gehen und Bleiben - Der Ort als KunstStück in Zeiten der Globalisierung

Public Panel Discussion with Herta Müller, Sung-Hyung Cho and Michael Hofstätter (27.11.08, 18:30 - 21:00, Fuchs-Petrolub-Saal, Schloss Ostflügel)

In times of globalization there is mainly discussion about „Gehen" (leaving): We watch people emigrate on reality-TV, European toy manufacturers produce in the Far East, and wiggly snapshots of would-be stars circulate around the world. In this context the constraints of exchange often fall into oblivion. What is left when seemingly everything is leaving?

The panel discussion Vom Gehen und Bleiben - Der Ort als KunstStück in Zeiten der Globalisierung approached the palpable effects of processes of cultural globalization. Based on the interaction between staying and leaving, the focus was on the formation of life "on site". Site as a meeting place, as a stepping stone, as an archive is a central category of processes of cultural globalization. How do sites take form? What are their demarcations? How do they influence living together?

These processes were discussed by internationally renowned artists from the fields of film, literature and architecture and young researchers. We especially took an interest in the concepts of identities, open spaces, home and change. Film clips, photos and reading extracts of our guests' repertoire were an important part of the discussion.

The panel discussion Vom Gehen und Bleiben - Der Ort als KunstStück in Zeiten der Globalisierung thereby created a space where research, artistic practices and the conditions of everyday life coincided.
