Graduate Program "Formations of the Global"
School of Humanities, University of Mannheim, Germany
Description of the Graduate Program
The overall research interest of the Graduate Program "Formations of the Global" is centered on constructions of "worlds" in historical, literary and communicative perspectives. The key concepts "Welterfahrungen - Weltentwürfe - Weltöffentlichkeiten" encompass the social, political, and economic mechanisms and agents of transboundary formations of identity and groups. Furthermore, they cover particular descriptions of the heterogeneous, homogeneous, or hybrid phenomena of cultural globalization, as well as designs and projects of the "global," and, finally, the normative orientations of transgressive togetherness as well as their demarcations. At the same time, the Graduate Program serves as a research platform networking the program's graduate students, members of the university's School of Humanities, and well-established researchers in the program's three core areas of research (History, Literature, and Media and Communication Studies).
